While attending the activities of the Arab-Chinese Forum and the tenth ministerial meeting in Beijing, which lasted for two days, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, visited the city of Shanghai to participate in the inauguration of the headquarters of the Arab-Chinese Studies Center for Reform and Development, which will be opened within 3 months.
The official spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, confirmed that the center represents an important initiative by the Chinese side to strengthen cultural, academic and scientific relations with the Arab side, noting that the Chinese government is making a great effort to make the center a starting point for all aspects of cooperation. It is also an incubator for ideas and experiences related to development. Chinese President Xi Jinping was keen to stress the importance of the center’s role in consolidating relations between the Arab and Chinese sides in his speech that he delivered at the opening of the Arab-Chinese Forum the day before yesterday.
Rushdi added that Aboul Gheit participated in the ceremony to start the countdown to the completion of the construction of the 17-storey center, accompanied by Zhai Jun, the Chinese envoy for Middle Eastern affairs, and Ms. Yin Dingmei, dean of Shanghai University of International Studies.
During the launch ceremony, Aboul Gheit praised the centre’s various activities, especially the periodic training courses it provides to officials, whether from Arab countries or the League of Nations, as part of the two sides’ efforts to advance their cooperation to broader horizons.
It is worth noting that the Arab-Chinese Studies Center for Reform and Development was opened in 2017 at Shanghai International Studies University in order to enhance studies on Arab-Chinese cooperation and also hold study courses, seminars and special lectures for senior officials in Arab countries on many topics, including global development, the Belt and Road, and establishing a community with a shared future for humanity.

During his visit to the city of Shanghai, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States met with Juan Yuan, its deputy mayor, where he expressed his admiration for the economic renaissance it had achieved over the course of a few decades. Despite this success, it maintained a distinct human and civilizational character that reflects the historical legacy of the city, stressing the potential for cooperation and exchange of experiences with the Arab side. limits in the future.
It is noteworthy that during his stay in Shanghai, Aboul Gheit visited a number of important scientific and technological centers there.
